My Stay at the Congress Plaza Hotel in Chicago
by Jack Hilton
I just got back from the windy city of Chicago where I spent a
total of four days at the Congress hotel. The hotel has huge rooms and
some of the rooms have a great view of Lake Michigan. I was in Chicago
for the annual "Taste of Chicago festival" and this hotel would be the
one that I would chose when I go again next year since it is just
across the street from Grant park.
My trip was near perfect except for the sunburn I got from not
wearing the right sun block but that's my fault. The hotel lobby has
free Wi-Fi so that is how I happened to decide on this hotel. The
location being right across the street from Grant park where the
festival was also played a big part in my decision to stay here.
As soon as you walk into the lobby of the hotel you can feel the
hotels charm. Even though the hotel was a little old it had character
that you don't see to often in today's cookie cutter hotels.
The Bellman was very helpful in giving me directions to a hip
restaurant and getting me in a cab. Speaking of cabs if you are
staying at this hotel and you have the time it is better to spend the
$1.75 for the 45 minute ride on the Chicago transit trains than it is
to pay $35-40 on a cab from either midway or O'Hare airport. The train
is 3 short blocks away. The money I saved was spent of the great food
that the festival had to offer.
The spacious room I had had a large king size bed and came with the
usual luxuries of a coffee pot and hairdryer. If you need an iron you
need to request it. My room also had a small refrigerator but I think
that also had to be requested.
If you are looking for a hotel that wont break your wallet this is
a good place to look first. I am sure there are some cheaper hotel
rooms in Chicago but this one was well worth the money.
This is the view from my room as you can see it overlooks lake
Michigan and the famous Buckingham fountain in Grant park. Off to the
left of the picture is the Navy pier which is in walking distance.

Like I have said above if I attend this Taste of
Chicago event again next year like I plan to I will be booking a room
at the Congress Plaza hotel.
